XPLOR – First Christian Church of North Hollywood

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of North Hollywood is very proud to be a Host Congregation for an exciting new national young adult Disciples of Christ program called XPLOR. FCCNH was one of the first three congregations across the US to host this program. The NBA is the National Benevolent Association of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the denomination’s US and Canadian focus on health and social services ministries. www.nbacares.org

NBA XPLOR is a faith-based, 10-month, congregationally-hosted residency program designed for 21 to 30 year olds looking to explore lives of care and service — giving them the opportunity to unleash their own potential, while positively impacting their community. XPLOR Residents work for 30 hours a week in an internship with a local non-profit; meet weekly with a Spiritual Companion and volunteer 6 hours a week with FCCNH in expanding the church’s ministry and the Residents’ leadership skills.

In this third year of XPLOR, mid-August 2016 through mid-June 2017, FCCNH has had the joy of hosting four XPLOR Residents:

Tim Campbell – Tim is the first Canadian to participate in the XPLOR program. He is part of a dynamic new church start, Sugarbush Christian Church in Guelph, Ontario. Time has extensive experience in theater, creative writing, and character voices. He recently served on the General Youth Council as an adult. He is 24 years old.

Eliud Peralez – Eli is from San Benito, Texas and is a member of Iglesia Cristiana Emmanuel where his parents are the co-pastors. He is a student at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley, majoring in history. He hopes to be a middle school history teacher someday. His passion is music ministry and youth ministry and he plays drums, piano, guitar and several other instruments as well as leading a praise team at his church.

Hannah Ryder – Hannah brings a very unique talent and skill as the captain and then teacher of the University of Central Florida’s winterguard program, a world finalist performing arts program. She is an active member at Pershing Avenue Christian Church in Orlando, Florida where she has worked with the youth program, parents day out, Sunday School and in the nursery. She loves dance, writing fiction and desires to stand up and fight against injustice.

Kydashia White – Kay is a senior at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas, an historic black Disciples college. She has many leadership positions at school: Vice-President of Peer Educators, whose mission is to help students with substance abuse, healthy dating and stress; Student government Association and she attended a Clinton Initiative in Miami, Florida about helping to bring clean water and adequate food to children in Africa. She loves to dance, and has been part of a hip hop dance team, plus she also enjoys acting, spoken word and painting.
